How to Clean the Solaire V-Shape Grilling Grates

One of the most unusual Solaire grill parts is the V-shape Solaire grilling grates. On every Solaire grill, these grates must be positioned in the “V” configuration (this means the open side is up) for a good reason. The V-shape design is a core component of Solaire’s infrared grilling system, working to control flare-ups while also enhancing the flavor of your food. Unlike traditional round-rod grates, this design is purpose-built for extra flavor and performance.

Cleaning Your Grates Before and After Grilling

One thing you will notice is that the intense heat will darken the grates quickly on your first grilling session. This is to be expected. The grates will last for years because they are solid stainless steel. For best results, brush your grilling grates with a stiff bristle brush after the standard three-minute warm-up before placing any food on the grill. Stainless steel or brass brushes are recommended. You should avoid those carbon steel brushes because they they can leave deposits that lead to surface rust on both the grate and the grill body.

This next part is often bypassed by avid grillers. We all just want to dig into that steak. But steaks are left to rest a few minutes so this is your chance to do the after grilling burn off. Once you’re done cooking, let the grill run for a minimum of five minutes during the burn-off cycle, and brush the grates clean again during that time. A grid scraper tool can also be used for more stubborn residue.

Deep Cleaning Your Solaire Grill Parts

If your grates look like the ones above, you may have skipped regular cleanings. here are a few options:

  • Dishwasher: The grates are dishwasher-safe on the Pots/Pans cycle.
  • Easy-Off Oven Cleaner: Apply to the grates, let it sit for 15–20 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with a garden hose. This method also works on the grill body itself — just remove the burners first, as you don’t want them exposed to moisture.
  • Soft Scrub: For any stubborn deposits that remain, apply Soft Scrub mild abrasive cleaner with a cloth and a little extra effort to scrub them away.

What to Expect Over Time

Keep in mind that the intense heat of infrared grilling will bronze the stainless steel over time — this is completely normal. Your grates won’t look brand new forever, but regular use of Easy-Off will keep them as clean and close to new as possible.

Properly maintaining these Solaire grill parts will extend their life and keep your grill performing at its best season after season.
